When pond water becomes cloudy or suspended algae begin to affect visibility, a combined filtration system can help restore a more balanced water cycle. The SunSun CPF-280 pressure pond filter combines mechanical and biological filtration with an integrated UVC clarifier, making it suitable for garden ponds with a volume of up to 8000 litres.

Mechanical and Biological Pond Filtration

The CPF-280 uses special filter sponges to retain suspended dirt while providing a large surface area for beneficial microorganisms. These microorganisms support the biological filtration process, while the mechanical stage captures particles and prevents them from returning directly to the pond.

Integrated 11 W UVC Pond Clarifier

The built-in 11 W UVC unit exposes flowing pond water to UV-C radiation. This alters suspended algae so that they form larger particles, allowing them to be captured more effectively by the mechanical filter media. The UVC clarifier therefore works alongside the filtration stages to support clearer pond water.

Suitable for Ponds up to 8000 Litres

The pressure pond filter is designed for ponds with a volume of up to 8000 litres. It can be connected to a suitable pond pump with a maximum flow rate of 9000 l/h. The pump is not included, so the selected model should be matched to the permitted flow rate of the filter.

Pressure Design for Flexible Water Return

As a pressure filter, the CPF-280 can return filtered water to a higher-positioned outlet such as a waterfall before it flows back into the pond. All connections and technical components are located in the lid, allowing the main filter body to be partially installed in the ground for a more discreet garden setup.

Easy Access for Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular maintenance mainly involves checking the filter media and UVC lamp. The filter sponges can be removed and manually squeezed out for cleaning. The UVC lamp should generally be replaced after approximately 6000–8000 operating hours, ideally at the beginning of a new pond season.

Supporting the Biological Start-Up Phase

A new biological pond filter requires time for sufficient microorganisms to establish themselves within the filter media. This process can take approximately four to six weeks, depending on conditions. Suitable starter bacteria can be used to support this initial phase, while biological activity is generally strongest once water temperatures rise above approximately 10–12 °C.

Positioning and Electrical Safety

The filter should ideally be positioned in a shaded location to help prevent excessive heating, with the filter temperature kept below 40 °C. When installing the pump, UVC unit and other electrical equipment around the pond, always observe the required safety distances and electrical regulations applicable in your country.
